The Bronze Basin

via

The Lord spoke to Moses: You shall make a bronze basin with a bronze stand for washing. You shall put it between the tent of meeting and the altar, and you shall put water in it; with the water Aaron and his sons shall wash their hands and their feet. When they go into the tent of meeting, or when they come near the altar to minister, to make an offering by fire to the Lord, they shall wash with water, so that they may not die. They shall wash their hands and their feet, so that they may not die: it shall be a perpetual ordinance for them, for him and for his descendants throughout their generations.

Something about this short passage about the basin for washing resonated with me when I read it a few weeks ago. I'm not sure why, but something about it just jumped out at me.

Seven Ways to Pray: 3. Dependence

If you want to catch up, read the introductory post for Seven Ways to Pray for Your Heart, which contains links to all the other posts in the series. Also, you can find Jon Bloom's original post here.

In his hand is the life of every living thing and the breath of every human being. Job 12:10

This week's word was dependence. Of all the biblical characters or popular stories I could think about when considering this word, Job stood out to me the most (well, Job and David).

Seven Ways to Pray: 2. Desires

If you want to catch up, read the introductory post for Seven Ways to Pray for Your Heart, which contains links to all the other posts in the series. Also, you can find Jon Bloom's original post here.

This week, we focused on desires. One of the things we prayed about was asking God to make our desires the same as his desires. As children of God, you would think that this was automatic, but as human beings, we were born into sin, and its desire for us can blind us to God's desires for us, and for us. [Not a typo!] We see this as God warns Cain in Genesis 4:7, and as Paul laments the human condition in Romans 7:11-23.

Seven Ways to Pray: 1. Delight

Read the introductory post for Seven Ways to Pray for Your Heart. Also, you can find Jon Bloom's original article here.

This week's word is delight. Delight has several definitions, all having to do with joy or pleasure: joy; rapture a high degree of pleasure or enjoyment; something that gives such pleasure; to give this height of joy/rapture; to have/take great pleasure (in something/someone). As you can see, delight covers all facets of joy -- what it is, receiving it, finding it, transferring it.

Seven Ways to Pray for Your Heart

I came across this article on desiringgod.org called Seven Ways to Pray for Your Heart. In the article, Jon Bloom (@Bloom_Jon), the writer, shared seven words that he focused on in prayer. He suggested choosing one word per day, or per week to focus on. I thought this was a cool way to focus in prayer for a short time, so a couple of friends and I decided to do this together. Over the next seven weeks, as we focus on each of the following seven words, I will also write a post on the word of the week.
